In this two semester survey course, students will explore medieval world history from circa 200 A.D. to 1600 A.D. The major units of study are Roman Empire, Islam, China, Japan, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Mesoamerica, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Scientific Revolution, and the Age of Exploration. The course will also include world geography and world current events.
Most assignments will be assigned in class and worked on at school and home. However, some of the assignments are web-based online. The activities and assignments in this course are meant to be a framework. Your involvement is a crucial component. In addition to basic supervision of your student's assignments, it is important that you monitor your student's understanding of the concepts or events that are explored. Informal discussion can be a very effective tool for accomplishing this. Reading the course syllabus and assignments will give you an idea of what is expected of your student, how grades will be determined, due dates, and the content of the weekly assignments.
Using the Aeries system you can access the course grade book at any time. The grade book will provide you with information about assignment completion and scores. Additional classroom information and online assignments will be found at the Oak Middle School web site.
